Overcome Opioid Use Disorder at ReVIDA® Recovery Oak Ridge
62 people in Anderson County died from an overdose in 2023. Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids were the most common substances found to have caused those deaths. At ReVIDA® Recovery, it is our responsibility to do everything we can to reduce the number of opioid deaths that occur, not just in Anderson County, but throughout Appalachia. We know that the best way to do that is to provide low-cost, judgment-free, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to the people in our area who are living with opioid use disorder (OUD).
If you’re one of the thousands of people in Tennessee living with OUD, we’re here to support you. At ReVIDA® Recovery, you’re not just a number but a unique individual who deserves to heal from your journey with opioids.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for Opioid Use Disorder Using Suboxone
Opioid use disorder doesn’t develop overnight. You might start out taking it just to relax on occasion or at the suggestion of a friend. Over time, your relationship with opioids changes into something you’re no longer in control of.
Opioids attach themselves to the opioid receptors in your brain and throughout your body. When this happens, your body blocks out pain and produces excess dopamine. The dopamine rush is what causes the desired effects associated with opioid consumption.
Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, is vital to the brain’s pleasure and reward system. Doing something you enjoy, like playing with your pet or watching your favorite movie, typically produces dopamine. The high level of dopamine that these activities produce causes you to want to repeat them.
Opioids produce considerably more dopamine than most of the activities you enjoy. When taking opioids, the things that usually make you happy no longer produce the same effects. These comparatively low dopamine levels cause you to go into withdrawal, which involves flu-like symptoms and cravings. Many people return to opioid use in an attempt to avoid this, creating a vicious cycle.
MAT for OUD is designed to empower you to break free from that cycle. Suboxone and Sublocade effectively treat OUD by reducing the severity of withdrawal symptoms and easing cravings for opioids. By treating these physical symptoms right away, you can begin working on the psychological factors behind your substance use faster.
A World-Class Suboxone Clinic and So Much More
At ReVIDA® Recovery, we prioritize creating accessible and efficient treatment for everyone.
During your first visit to our Oak Ridge clinic, you’ll be greeted by the warm, welcoming environment that our staff fosters. You’ll then meet with multiple members of your care team to get your treatment off to the right start. These meetings, which typically last between 15 and 50 minutes, involve 3 people who will play a fundamental role in your care here.
During this visit, you’ll meet with:
- Your physician. At this first appointment, your doctor will perform a physical exam to get an idea of where your health is. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you have. Together, the two of you will decide if Suboxone, a once-daily tablet, or Sublocade, a monthly injection, is the best medication to meet your needs. You’ll also be able to discuss any other prescriptions you may need during recovery.
- Your care coordinator. You and your care coordinator will work together to identify resources to support your recovery outside of our facility. Examples include educational resources, employment opportunities, and housing or support for escaping domestic violence. You will have additional opportunities to meet with your care coordinator during your time at ReVIDA®.
- Your Therapist. Your therapist will play an instrumental role in your recovery. Together, you’ll work on getting to the root of your opioid use disorder. Your therapist will work with you to develop the tools you need to process trauma, regulate your emotions, improve interpersonal communication, and more.
Outpatient (OP) Treatment and MAT in Oak Ridge
Our outpatient treatment doesn’t end after one visit. Just like you’re making a commitment to your recovery, we’re making a commitment to stand by you during your journey.
You’ll continue to meet regularly with your MAT doctor. At these appointments, you’ll discuss how your medication is working for you and whether or not you are experiencing any side effects. You’ll have the opportunity to adjust your dose and get assistance with any additional concerns that you may have.
Individual, outpatient therapy sessions will also be a regular part of your treatment experience. Our therapists use evidence-based therapeutic techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to empower patients to heal. In CBT, you’ll focus on understanding the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Then, you and your therapist will work together to identify unhelpful thought patterns and change them, leading to healthier coping strategies.
Group therapy is the third consistent part of outpatient treatment that you’ll focus on. Our group therapy sessions are made up entirely of clients who are also doing MAT for OUD. This ensures that you’ll be with people who understand your experiences. In the group, you’ll develop a sense of camaraderie and mutually support each other over the course of your recovery.
