ReVIDA Recovery® Centers, Ballad Health to offer free mammograms through end of February

Ballad Health’s mobile health coach will be hosted by ReVIDA clinics to offer routine preventive cancer screenings to patients, community members

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – ReVIDA Recovery® Centers CEO Lee Dilworth today announced the company will host Ballad Health’s mobile health clinic for a series of free mammogram screenings at ReVIDA’s locations in Johnson City and Morristown, Tenn. and Duffield, Va. beginning this month and through February. These free preventive screenings, recommended for women 40 years of age and older, are open to the public and will be available for appointments from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“We are proud to host Ballad Health to bring this life-saving screening service to our patients and others as we work to promote safe and healthy communities throughout the Appalachian Highlands,” said ReVIDA Recovery® Centers Founder and CEO Lee Dilworth. “At ReVIDA, we believe mental health, physical health, and emotional health are intertwined. Routine mammograms are crucial to detecting breast cancer early and can help save lives. That’s why we want to offer this opportunity to both our patients and the community at large.”

Over 255,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, making it the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in women in the United States. Early detection can both reduce healthcare costs associated with treating cancer and save lives. According to the Centers for Disease Control, mammogram screenings have contributed to a 29% reduction in the number of women diagnosed with breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, and early screenings reduce breast cancer deaths by 26% for every 1,000 women who are screened.

To improve the overall health of the community, access to primary care is critical, and Ballad Health’s mobile mammography unit helps better serve the women of our communities.

“Detecting breast cancer early, when it’s easiest to treat, has a tremendous impact on a woman’s long-term health,” said Paula Masters, vice president of health programs, Ballad Health. “Community organizations such as ReVIDA Recovery® Centers understand that preventive health is integral to recovery treatment. If you or someone you know is up for an annual routine mammogram, don’t put it off. Visit our mobile health coach located in the ReVIDA parking lot and begin the new year with some peace of mind.”

Co-occurring disorders occur when health risk factors overlap, such as when medical issues such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, or obesity exist alongside addiction disorders. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, co-occurring disorders can worsen a person’s overall health, making physical and emotional recovery increasingly difficult to manage.

“Ballad Health remains committed to providing quality, accessible care for everyone in the Appalachian Highlands and partnering with ReVIDA significantly increases access to mammography services for women in our region,” said Masters.

Ballad Health’s mobile coach will be at the following ReVIDA Recovery® Centers in January and February, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the designated days. The routine, digital mammograms are a preventative service performed free of charge with proof of insurance.
