Latest insurance partnership lowers barriers to the cost of treatment for opioid use disorder

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – ReVIDA Recovery® Centers CEO Lee Dilworth today announced that ReVIDA now welcomes Humana Behavioral Health – Commercial and Medicare Advantage plans at all seven of its locations in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. This is the latest addition to ReVIDA’s growing list of commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid partnerships to lower the cost of treatment for individuals living with opioid use disorder.

ReVIDA offers evidence-based treatment services both via telehealth and in person at its offices in Knoxville, Morristown, Newport, and Johnson City in Tennessee. ReVIDA’s three locations in Southwest Virginia include Abingdon, Duffield, and Wytheville, Va.

“Not too long ago, state Medicaid programs and commercial insurers were not willing to insure recovery treatment for substance use disorder, creating steep barriers for individuals in need of treatment,” said Lee Dilworth, CEO of ReVIDA Recovery® Centers. “That’s why we’ve worked hard to contract with additional insurance plans who believe in evidence-based treatment like we do. We’re proud to add Humana Behavioral Health to our growing list of payers who are dedicated to lowering barriers to recovery treatment services in Tennessee and Virginia.”

ReVIDA welcomes patients who participate in Humana Behavioral Health’s commercial and Medicare Advantage programs in both Tennessee and Virginia. In addition, ReVIDA is accredited with the Virginia ARTS program and all three Managed Care Organizations for TennCare, Tennessee’s state Medicaid program. ReVIDA also accepts commercial and Medicare Advantage patients for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee and UnitedHealth in Tennessee, as well as commercial and Medicare Advantage patients for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia and Optima Health.

According to the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, only one in 10 people struggling with opioid use disorder receives treatment due to barriers such as lack of insurance or high out-of-pocket costs. In 2020, 1,909 Virginians lost their lives to opioids, a 47% increase in opioid-related deaths compared to 2019. By comparison, 3,000 Tennesseans died of a fatal overdose from opioids in 2020, according to the Tennessee Department of Health, a 44% rise in opioid-related overdose deaths compared to 2019. Nationally, there was a29% rise in overdose deaths from October 2019 through September 2020 highlighting the outsized need for addiction treatment services as the pandemic placed an increased strain on mental health in our communities.
